A metallic miniature garden
During the cloudy days of winter, when the sun hides and snow accumulates, my yard can see the incredible diaries. Trembling leafless trees. Hide icy patches. And the night comes down as early as possible, just like the day it started. Yak.
Luckily, my winter container gardens bring light and hope to my days even during the longest months of the year. When I try to fill my miniature gardens with bright winter flowering plants and cheerful fairies, my efforts are not always enough. I have to go one step further to design a fairy garden to put a little magic into the season. When the sky gets cloudy and the night gets colder, I notice all that glitter, sparkles, and shines.
Have you ever thought about incorporating metals into your miniature garden? Adding a few spots of silver and gold are the easiest ways to add a fun and festive twist to a winter container garden. Just a few small changes and your fairy garden will be perfect for fairy royalty.
Containers One of my favorite ways to dress up my winter container garden is with metallic containers. Some elegant metallic comes pre-painted in gold, silver, or sparkling gem tones. Metal containers can act just like neutral colors, blending seamlessly with decor on a patio or in the living room. But they can also stand. Use metal containers as part of the center or as pots alone to draw the eye. If you like a more antique look, try experimenting with vintage dolls, wash shutters, and lids. Just be sure to consider the winter plants you include, and plan for any liners or drainage holes you may need.
Landscaping If you already have your winter container garden or ground fairy garden planted, you may want to consider incorporating some silver, gold, and sparkling elements into your fairy garden landscape. In 2021, I’m looking forward to finding some shiny glossy rocks to add to my “water” features. I hope the addition of glitter will not only make the miniature garden look more magical, but also give the illusion of flowing water.
Metallic tiled stones or pathways, whether purchased or DIY, can help further the design of your garden. Fairies will notice if they go beyond the shining road! Ferry lights and lit ferry houses can add a final touch of light. I use it to line roads, decorate fences, and wind around tough winter plants. Winter can be a black season. A short string of battery-powered fairy lights can help brighten up a full winter container garden.
Accessories For just a hint of metal in the fairy garden, turn to gold and silver accessories. Gardeners who prefer a vintage look may find tiny-small windmills, campers, signs, and other items that are antique, tarnished, or worn. Gardeners who admire eccentric or magical can carefully consider fairy tales, crowns, wreaths, tools, and wind chimes.
Here is one last thought I found recently. Sometimes they are "Celtic wish coins," "tooth fairy tokens" or "gold at the end of the rainbow". By collecting old tokens and painting them gold glitter, you can create your own fairy currency. Young and old visitors will love to find hidden coins. Maybe you can provide a treasure chest or a secret where the coins found can be "returned to the fairies" or traded for a fairy gift. Finding, counting, and sorting coins is an activity that will keep young people at bay for a surprisingly long time.
Ready to add a little light to your garden with glitter and gold? May your days in the garden be full of warmth, life, and magic, no matter what winter brings.
